Maintain communication with locomotive driver, and others helping move cars, status of railcar air/brake lines, hand brakes and when it is safe to move, detach, attach, railcars and/or locomotive. Assist locomotive driver by hooking up cars to loco spotting crossings for traffic breaking off or adding cars to be pulled by the locomotive throwing railroad switches in correct position applying hand brakes to railcars, and “bombing” railcars to engage railcar cylinder brakes. Transloader belt update#
Update railcar list on spur.noting sand type, position, and if railcar is full, empty, or partially full/empty (daily). Change air filter as needed (every 5-6 months). Keep in communication with scaler via radio status of filled trucks any split loads with new railcar number.Take two sand samples for every railcar, one sample given to drivers, one for Bakken Transload (discard any sand samples older than one week).Stop loading when at proper weight, or at driver’s signal.Verify sand is loading on trailer and no sand is spilling.
Open railcar gate using ratchet, cheater pipe, and propane torch (if needed in winter).Run transloader at proper belt speed and belt weight.Spot and align sand truck under transloader spout.
Properly place transloader deck under railcar gate. Verify correct sand type and weight with truck scaler and driver.
